1.
Program Background. The Navy
has established a Navy Riverine Force, which will be responsible for
riverine security operations to include board and search operations, and
riverine patrol operations in support of the Global War on Terrorism. In
the short term, the unit will relieve the Marine Corps Small Craft Company
currently engaged in combat operations in Iraq. This unit will be designed to
- insert/extract Army, Marine, or Special Operating
Forces (SOF) personnel;
- conduct fire support;
- security;
- tactical intelligence; and
- command and control along an enemys
waterways.
a. Riverine Squadron duties will
include
- brown water river patrols,
- transporting of troops,
- controlling of entry/exit access points to restricted
areas,
- setting defensive perimeters,
- enforcing general and special orders and regulations
applicable to the area of operations,
- performing convoy escorts, and
- defending against intrusion by hostile elements.
b. Weapons. Members must maintain
qualifications in various tactical and crew served weapons. Due to this
requirement, members desiring orders to Riverine Squadron who have open Family
Advocacy Program (FAP) cases, have been convicted of a domestic violence
charge, or have been convicted in a civil court (other than minor traffic
violations) are ineligible (nonwaiverable).
c. Boat Operations. Duty will
require high tempo boat operations on highspeed patrol craft.
d. Training Location. Most of the
formal training will be conducted at Camp Lejune, NC.
e. Tour Length. Tour length will
be prescribed rating sea tour or a minimum of 36 months, whichever is
longer.
2. Requirements/Qualifications

b. Minimum Requirements.
Prospective members of Riverine Squadron shall meet the following minimum
requirements:
(1) Combat Authorization. The
Riverine Squadron will be engaged in direct combat operations and females are
not authorized to be assigned to any of the three Squadrons, but may be
assigned positions at the Riverine Group. (2) Citizenship.
Must be U.S. citizen. (3) Physical/Mental Condition. Be physically
fit per reference (a). Personnel assigned to Boat Crews will be required to
qualify as Second Class Swimmers after reporting. Individuals desiring
permanent change of station (PCS) orders to this highly trained group of
professionals are required to be in top physical and mental shape. (4)
Clearances. Personnel in the ET, GM, HT,
IS, IT, MA, OS, QM, and YN ratings must
hold a Secret clearance or be eligible for a Secret clearance. Personnel in the
BM and EN ratings, paygrade E-6 and above, must also meet Secret
clearance requirement. (5) Drivers License. Must have a valid
U.S. drivers license (6) Screening. Satisfactorily complete
Operational Screening per MILPERSMAN 1300-800.
c. Screening Documentation.
Complete sections A, B, C, D2, D3, and D4 of NAVPERS 1306/92 (Rev. 12-03),
Special Program Screening Form, Exhibit 1 of MILPERSMAN 1306-900.
d. Obligated Service (OBLISERV).
Required OBLISERV for this program is 36 months.
